Congratulations to prof Amanda Eubanks Winkler who recently presented a paper titled, “Andrew Lloyd Webber and Thatcherite Arts Policy" at the German Historical Institute in London, UK, as part of the institute's "Cultures of Conservatism in the United States and Western Europe between the 1970s and 1990s" conference. She was invited to present her research at this venue. For her paper, prof Eubanks Winkler looked at Lloyd Webber’s musicals from the 1980s (Cats, Starlight Express, Phantom, and Aspects of Love) through the lens of Thatcherism (in particular how the cultural/aesthetic and economic manifestations of Thatcherism intersected).
